Calendar of events

We have a full calendar for the months ahead and look forward to welcoming our guests.

Gallery Gatherings

We hosted our first Gallery Gathering last week with Annette Gibbon's 'A Taste of Spring'.  It was a beautiful day, Annette was really entertaining and hopefully the lunch was well received.(Feedback from Annette's lunch - see separate email from Christian).  If anyone is interested Annette is more than happy to entertain private groups on a regular basis so do get in touch for more details. You can read Christian's review here  and we have videos of Annette along with the actual recipes on the blog. For instance you can watch Annette introduce herself and then go on to talk about savoury herb scones by clicking here.

Our forthcoming gatherings include:

Border Reivers 16th June

Edwin Rutherford, Keeper of Social History at Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery, will give a talk on the local history of the Border Reivers.  Edwin is  currently working on a new Border Reivers exhibition which will open soon. Correction- Please note this was previously advertised as happening on 16 May when it should have been 16 June.

£9 to include coffee and cake on arrival (2.30 start)

We do hope to see you there and if you know of any interesting speaker you'd like us to include then again just let me know.

And during the 6 weeks school holidays in the Summer Carol Donnelley from Great Guided Tours will be taking guided walking tours from Lanercost every Wednesday morning and then hosting a talk in the afternoon in the gallery, more details to follow in next month's newsletter.

The Wedding

Actually for us it's Katie (not Kate), Jean's daughter who gets married at the end of April to Jonny (not William) and so this is our big day (the day after the other wedding).  Jean is one of our original Lanercost team members who I'm sure many of you will know. We want to wish both Katie & Jonny every happiness for the future and hope Jean doesn't cry too much on the day.

And the other wedding day?  Well we're open 10-5, as usual, and will be that place of tranquility, as always, to either share in the celebrations or meet up with friends and family on the Bank Holiday.  We may have a few extra cupcakes and bunting to create the atmosphere.

Dog Photo Gallery

As many of you know we're fairly fanatical dog lovers, having 3 dogs ourselves who we often refer to as being the real 'management board of the company'.  There is Charlie (Farley), a 10 year old Jack Russell bitch who, like all Jack Russell's can only be described as living 'life on the edge', followed by Max(imus Borderus Terrierus) who has 'middle child syndrome' and a great affinity with the great outdoors locally, and then the very vocal youngster, Jasper, a Norfolk (Terrier of course) who can actually talk.  We have many regular dog walking customers and thought it would be a nice idea to create their own photo gallery.  With that in mind next time you're visiting us let Victoria know and she'll take a photo and add it to the gallery, complete with caption!

Hadrian's Wall and Lanercost Priory

We're looking forward to our Summer season, the Priory ruins operated by English Heritage, open this weekend and the AD122 bus will soon start running again so make sure to come and see us soon.  Actually if you haven't thought of it before the Hadrian's Wall bus is a great way of locals walking the wall in manageable sections over a few weeks rather than the entire length in one go, something to remember when you have family visitors staying with you perhaps. Park your car, walk your walk and bus it back!

New menu

Our new menu will be introduced in the next few weeks and I'll send you a copy as soon as we finalise it.

Made in Cumbria

New ranges have arrived including collections from Jan Beadle, Chameleon and The Howgill Range from Laura's Loom.

Local Produce

We're pleased to tell you that we are now back in stock of the Geltsdale Lanercost Bitter as part of the full range of Geltsdale beer we stock.  We're introducing Cumbrian Legendary Ales which will include their Croglin Vampire for all your beer connoisseurs and these should be with us next week. Also we will be stocking local food boxes from Eva's organics.

The Eagle of the Ninth by Rosemary Sutcliff is available as part of our book collection for those who are interested in reading it as the film 'The Eagle' is launched this week.

Tango at the tearoom. We are very excited to welcome Tanya and Howard who are now taking classes in the Argentine Tango on Sunday afternoons. It is great fun and we would strongly recommend that you give it a try. You can read a little more about it and see a video by clicking here.

Please come and join us!
